Thorpe Park is a much acclaimed park and holds several records. For example Colossus was the first roller coaster in the world to boast of 10 inversions and Stealth is also considered to be Europe's highest and fastest launched roller coaster.

Previously it was known as the Chessington Zoo, but in the year 1987 it was converted to the Chessington World of Adventures. The Chessington World of Adventures is divided into different sections. This is an area in the park, which is called Animal Land. This section of the park is composed of a wide range of animals including gorillas, the two tigers, meerkats, and monkeys. There is also a sea lion enclosure and Creepy Caves which houses reptiles. Land animals also have a large number of endangered species such as the California Sea Lion, Tiger Sumatra and Persian Leopard.

Beonoland is another area in the park, which is based on the Beano comic and has rides like Dennis's Madhouse, Roger Dodger's Dodgems and Billy's Whizzer. Forbidde Kingdom is an area that has Eygptian style tombs and houses two popular rides' Tomb Blaster "and Rameses Revenge. Dragons of the land is an area that is primarily devoted to extolling the many children and rides for children.
